Hi, I'm considering buying a couple of i350-T2 Ethernet Server adapters for the purpose of transferring big files (hundreds of MB) at about 100 MB/s. According to the specification the i350-T2 has a PCIe 2.1 interface, but the computers I'll put them in have PCIe 2.0 ports. (Dell Optiplex 760, HP Compaq 8000 Elite)
According to Wikipedia the difference between 2.1 and 2.0 is small and they have the same speed. Does anybody know if the i350-T2 was designed and tested for compatibility with PCIe 2.0? Or is it safer to pick an older adapter to avoid trouble?
Some googling reveals that plugging 2.1 boards in 2.0 ports works most of the time, but can cause trouble occasionally. (See e.g. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/290252-15-does-work-slot ).
Best regards,
