Windows 8.1 killed WiDi

Hello anyone!  I'm going to apologize off the bat for my terse tone (please read my note below)

I have a brand new ASUS Q501LA that was a fantastically fast and perfectly operating laptop on Windows 8.  With and SSD it booted in 7 seconds. I made the mistake of "upgrading" to Windows 8.1 and now hate the thing.  I bought my daughter the same laptop and still on Win 8, it works perfectly even with WiDi.  I've been through these forums and upgraded every ASUS driver from their site, every driver from Intel site and WiDi still won't work.  I have a Netgear P2TV3000 that works with every device but my Win8.1 laptop.  The laptop sees the P2TV3000 but when I go to Devices/Add a wireless display and click on the P2TV3000, the "Search for devices" hangs for 20 seconds, then tries to connect for another 10 seconds, then comes back with a "that didn't work".go to ".  Again I've just download every Intel and ASUS driver with no joy.  I'm at a loss as to what next to try other than using the refresh option to rollback to Win8. I'm even considering Win7 since I know that is a stable OS.

* I apologize for any anger/tone coming though but I have spent no less than a week trying to get 8.1 to work and all I have to show for it is a 3 minute boot time, no WiDi on my new laptop that I bought for WiDi, very high blood pressure, and a feeling that Linux is superior. I've been in IT for 30 years and have never had any OS fail so badly.  I've built entire corporate networks in less time than I've spent on this laptop because of 8.1.
