I recently bought a D-LINK DHD-131 MainStage that comes with a pretty old firmware (2.11.15.0, still using the legacy WiDi interface). This is the problem, since Intel WiDi utility is not compatible with Windows 8.1, I can't update the firmware from my DHD-131 to the lastest version to get Miracast support (and get DHD-131 to work using the Charms menu on Windows 8.1) and there seems to be no other way to update this device firmwarehd.
I got an earlier version (3.5.40.0) of WiDi compatible with Windows 8.1 from my manufacture (Lenovo) so I could upgrade the firmware on my device, but it does not seem to get the lastest firmware (the installed firmware is 3.5.28.0) since I can't run Intel WiDi 4.x on my laptop. Anyway, this seems pretty strange to me, if you're using Windows 8.1 you can't upgrade your device firmware (and get the lastest features) without using another PC with an older Windows version or using older software/drivers on Windows 8.1 to get flaky WiDi support. Why there is no Intel WiDi utility for Windows 8.1?
Here are my specs:
Lenovo Y580
Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200 with driver version 15.10.5.1
Intel HD Graphics 4000 with driver version 10.18.10.3277 (from Lenovo, since my Laptop has switchable graphics)
